AAN & Xpand Meet-Ups: Wearable Devices and the Internet of Things (IoT)- the Melbourne Edition

While the stage is set for the Sydney chapter of the AAN & Xpand meet-ups this Tuesday night at the Xpand offices in Millers Point, for those of you based in Melbourne there is still time to RSVP for Thursday night's unmissable meet -up at the 'The Deck' located on level 2 of the - 'Waterside Hotel'.

Our Melbourne panel features three more heavy hitters of the tech industry who will be raring to delve deeply into the world of Wearable Tech and the Internet of Things and ready to answer all of your questions.

The first of our phenomenal expert panelists is Dr Steven Stenton, Phd, BACS, FRSA, MA- both the inventor and lead architect of CDM’s Intelligent Systems Solution.



Steve has an extensive development career spanning over 25 years which began as a test developer for Amstrad working on the original Z80 based Amstrad CPC microcomputers.  This was followed by developing integrated assembly code for the Tandy range of business computers.

During the digital communications revolution of the 1990’s Steven developed embedded communications systems for both telephony solutions (ASIC engineering for portable SS7 chips for Intelligent Networks) and digital T.V. (creating the world’s first switching code for Video over Frame Relay). 

Steven moved into the systems engineering of mobile operating systems firstly for the British hand held computer manufacturer PSION and then to Symbian where he led the Smartphone Product Management team (for which he gained his doctorate).  More recently Steve was Global VP of Marketing at Dejima (Sybase) and head of Commercial Product Management at NEC.

Steven has held a number of patents over the years, most notably for his work in dynamic digital colour matching algorithms and embedded systems design.

Then we have Roger Lawrence- Chief Technologist, Innovation- Asia Pacific & Japan, HP who we are also fortunate enough to have feature as a panelist for the Sydney event.



Roger Lawrence is Chief Technologist for innovation in HP Enterprise Services, Asia- Pacific & Japan, responsible for facilitating innovation for enterprise clients across the region. He also works with senior executives to understand industry trends and develop strategic solutions.

Roger has spent some 27years in Information Technology and benefits from experience such as Mainframe Programming the late 80's; Infrastructure , Support and Consulting in the 90’s; Architecture and Strategy Consulting in the earlier part of this decade; Consulting Practice Management & Group Management of Technologists, Technology Evangelism, Start-up experience and Market strategy.

His passion is around enabling people and business with the latest technologies, especially where the virtual and real worlds. Roger is currently the chair of the Australian Information Industry (AIIA), Innovation special Interest group and he regularly presents at industry forums.

 And for our final panelist we have Sebastien Poly- Strategy & Innovation Executive at ABnote Australia.



Sebastien is a highly accomplished executive with 15 years of experience, serving in executive-level roles at telecom and finance industry, working in multiple countries and expertise in product management, strategy, innovation, business development, and product development.

Sebastien joined ABnote in June 2013 and is responsible for leading Emerging technology & channel Innovation, shaping and enabling the next generation of payment capabilities, such as NFC, Cloud  based payment, Tokenization, wearables and other innovative solutions that enhance the customer experience.

Previously to commencing with ABnote, Sebastien was with Safran Morpho a global leader in security and identity solutions where he worked for 10 years. Passionate by innovation was responsible of the NFC products, Smart Ticketing and multiplicative cards Product line.

Most recently Sebastien was leading a team in charge of all payments and risk management services for, one of the biggest e-merchants in Europe (3.2 Billion turnovers, 80M tickets sold online in 2011).

Sebastien helps companies leverage a comprehensive digital strategy and find the right partners to meet the coming challenges. His experience and vision applied to real world challenges has made him a leading force for lasting change in a rapidly evolving world driven by technology, innovation and globalisation.
